Road Trip to Monemvasia

on August 10, 2013

IMG_3953IMG_3955After an adventurous drive along scenic coastline and across a mountain range, we arrived at Monemvasia in our borrowed Mini Coop. The peninsula in the southeastern Peloponnese is the site of a beautiful medieval fortress. It derives its name from two Greek words meaning “single entrance” (pictured on the left below). Lucky for tourists like us, many of the medieval buildings near the water have been restored and converted to quaint hotels. That’s me below on our hotel room terrace after a swim!
